DC v240 power supply options

If a Netra 240 has DC redundant power units in it, can those be swapped out for AC units, and what kind of product do I need to power the DC units if I keep them? Is there a sun part number somebody could give me?Thanks

Hello Daniel,

I would suggest that you review the Netra 240 page(s) in the Sun System Handbook.

Netra 240 Server

Both power supplies are listed in the Full Components List.

Because you want to buy the required parts, why not call Sun Sales ?

Thanks for your reply,

If the components are listed together (I have looked over that page and parts of the manual) does that mean the rest of the system is the same? Nothing in that system is going to be DC PSU only?

Does anybody know what you power a DC psu with? I guess that is really my question. I dont want to call sun unless I know what I am asking for...

Hello Daniel,

some sort of misunderstanding. You got a Netra v240 DC version and think about changing to the AC operated version. There is no DC power available at your site/data center.

From my understanding the only difference between the AC and DC model are the upto two powersupplies..

Please review the Netra 240 Server Release Notes (Part-No 817-3142-18). This document updates the information regarding power limits and ranges for the DC and AC versions in the Netra 240 Server Installation Guide (#817-2698-12).

I referred you to Sun sales, because they can tell you how much the upgrade/exchange costs (if a FE is required) and if this type of modification is supported.

Looking at the Handbook there are 2 power modules available for the Netra 240, DC (300-156) and AC versions (300-1568 / 300-1674 depending on what CPUs you have). I can find any concrete info on this but I would have imaged that it would just be a case of swapping the DC modules for the AC versions.

But, having said that, you are going to have to get that checked by Sun, so open a Sun Support Case just to be sure. Also you are going to have to check if doing this would affect the warranty of the server if you have any left, as this would be changing the spec of the system from its provided state.

Just a though.

Thanks for your replies. I have decided not to touch it until I can devote more time and resources.
