V880 OBP message......help needed!

I have a customer who is telling me he cant install a V880 board he has into his live V880. The reason being when he tests it in his test V880 it comes up with the line:

Reading temperature limits from FRUPROMs: CPU0/2 CPU1/3 MB I/O DBP0

I have assured him this is normal,to which he tells me it has not happened with any other boards he has seen in the last few years. He has not changed the OBP level on his test server for a while so it cant be that.

Could someone tell me when this feature came in and what it is exactly telling me as he is sure the board is failing!

Perhaps i am wrong?

Any help would be appreciated

I'll start the conversation here.

Let me see if I can repeat what you said, so that I understand it better...

An end-user has two V880's, one in production and one that's used to "prove" various scenarios for both hardware and software configurations. They hope to upgrade the production system by adding another cpu/memory board, but when they happen to have that new board in the other development system, they happen to see a comment that some health status proms are being probed.

OK so far?

1. Does the development system hang, or is the line you quoted simply observed in passing, as the development system undergoes POST?

2. Are the two systems absolutely identical for OBP and Solaris patching? What is the OBP, by the way?

2. They're not mixing cpu speeds or cpu types when the new board is installed, are they?[US-III+ and US-IV]

Now I'll let others jump in...

Thanks for the reply, this is the story and you are quite right with what you have said so far.

1) This line they are seeing is just at the end of the OBP ( i preume they are using full diags as this is the only time i see this line myself) once POST has finished. The system does not hang it carries on as normal and show-post-results is fine!

2) The OBP levels i will have to check on the live system but the test one is 4.15.6

3) No they are not mixing CPU speeds

Reading temperature limits from FRUPROMs: CPU0/2 CPU1/3 MB I/O DBP0

My issue is really just to proove a point to them that this line they are seeing (above) as POST ends is totally normal. I am quite sure they dont have any serious issues...... they just dont seem to believe there is no problem!

I am sure the line they see is just telling them that the server is checking the Field Replacement Units and as there is no error message all is fine.
