How do I turn off warning

I have a machine with a Sun Blade 2500 mohterboard in it. When I boot the machine, I receive a warning: Warning: Failed to open device(/<a href="mailto:pci&#64;1e" target="_blank">pci@1e</a>,600000/<a href="mailto:isa&#64;7" target="_blank">isa@7</a>/<a href="mailto:i2c&#64;0" target="_blank">i2c@0</a>,320/<a href="mailto:gpio&#64;0" target="_blank">gpio@0</a>,30:pca9556_0), rv(6)

I believe the problem is caused because I have no sound cards or other audio devices attached. I also get warnings that the audiots0 is not working and cannot be configured.

What I would like to know is where do I go to stop the machine from looking for the above device. I have looked in /etc/rc areas but nothing jumps out at me. Neither is there anything in the printenv area.

Thanks for your time.

When you say "I have a machine with a Sun Blade 2500 mohterboard", I assume that it is a Blade 2500, if not correct me.

First a few questions:

1. What have you got in and connected to the system?

2. Have you always had this issue?

3. What changes have you made recently, new software, hardware, patches, etc?

4. At what stage of the boot do you see the message?

Now a few outputs that would be nice to see:

1. The /var/adm/messages file(s)

2. prtdiag -v

Now a few things that you might like to try:

1. Make sure that the system has been patched upto the latest levels, using the recomended patch cluster.

2. Make sure the system firmware(s) and OBP and up to date

3. Pass the server through diagnostics 2 or 3 times and see if any errors are shown.

4. Check the warranty on the system as you might have to or want to open a Sun Support case.

All I have in the system is 4 GB of memory, 2xSeagate 73GB hard drives, an XVR-100 PCI 2D Graphics card. I have always had the issue, the warnings appear right after the banner for the O/S. I do not see the message at any other time, and there is no problems when running VTS testing the memory, processors, and hard drives. I am running Solaris 8 HW 5/03. I have added no patches. OBP is 4.9.7

Checking Sunsolve I see a few issue with the gpio devices on older firmware and OBP revisions. Try upgrading the system firmware to the latest revision, which should be revison 4.17.1 under patch 119232-02.

Please ensure that you read the readme file first, incase there is anything in it that might affect other aspects of the system. If you are not 100% sure and happy with doing this then I suggest that you open a Support case with Sun and get a field engineer out to do this for you.

If I may butt in for a moment. You have a SB2500?... or have you removed all the internals from such a computer and installed the systemboard to a custom OEM 3rd party housing?... just trying to make some sense of the description in you opening comments.

Yeah I made the assumption here that it was a Blade 2500, but rereading the first posting you could be right.

The I2C bus will need to "see" everything that it was hardwired to monitor, else such an error could appear. The OBP update will be necessary, whatever the response from Stephen.

I have patched with the latest Solaris 8 cluster, and upgraded to OBP 4.17.1, but the messages continue. Is it possible that the moboard is expecting a device of some sort?

BillYes this is a motherboard that has been placed into a case for a customer. It only has memory, CPUs, hard drives, etc. Yes it is a Sun Blade 2500

It is quite possible, especially since reading your last post that this system is not in its standard case. As Bill said the I2C bus expects certain things, some of which might be missing if it is not in its standard case.
