Problem on E3500

Dear all expert,

I am the beginner and I bought a Sun E3500 server but i can't boot it up. I placed a solaris 10 installation in DVD-ROM, how can I boot up the system from that DVD and install it?

While i boot up the system (diag) , i saw a white screen and show

No ONLINE status! Check H/W and cable

Timeout waiting for ARP/ARAP packets

Boot Devices : net File and args

(No respond on the keybroad)

Is it POST or no OS ?

The front panel LED

On Off On

CPU/Memory Broad LED

On Off Off

Can anyone help me, Thanks a lot

once you get it to post (past Boot Devices : net File and args), hit Stop+A (hoping you have a Sun keyboard), then you can do boot cdrom...that is, if the E3500 is Solaris 10 supported?haroldkarl

I/O Board must be in Slot 1

At the ok prompt type:

ok boot cdrom

Edit by moderator:Here is the other posting placed by kcaptain in the OS forum, same system, same issue.

Have u installed the gbic modules to the i/o boards and connect them interface board with a fiber optik cable. On E3500s there is no internal connection to the disk cage. You need to connect it externally.

Hmm just a quick one.. old e3500`s did not come with a dvd rom they were cd only

Unless ist been upgraded or had the cd changed.

you need to stop A the box and change the diag-switch to false

also check the key is in the on position and not diags

gets everyone

if you get to the ok prompt type

probe-fcal-all

or

probe-scsi-all

if you cant see any disks you have a gbic or fiber problem

also set the autoboot to false it helps while your testing /installing

Check the handbook again Jeremy, the E3500 supports 390-0025 10X DVDROM, the CD 32 option was available until 2000, the system was EOL in 2003.

We'll all probably never know the outcome.

The original poster hasn't logged in to the forums since their first week, a couple of months ago.

As I re-read the original question, they stated they just put the media into the drive. They never mentioned they actually tried to tell the system to boot from that drive, they just turned it on, with the keyswitch in diag mode.

Yes, I noticed that. But you have to suppose that some people have the sense to do that.

But you cant allwasys rely on what people are telling you.( -10 for spelling)

"sound travels faster than light. This is why some people seem bright untill they open there mouthes"
