Amber light: sunfire v100

Hi,

I'm new here and did a quick search, but... I can't find the stuff I'm looking for.

I have a Sunfire v100 and the hardware light on the front of the box is a solid amber. Does anyone here know where to download the tools to test the system for possible failures, or exactly which logs to look at to find it?

-Thanks

at solaris prompt#prtdiag -vlocated in the /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/ directoryand it will tell you status of lights and why they are on....most likely a fan.doug

Thanks for the reply,

Here is what prtdiag -v returns and a reboot doesn't turn off the light... or does the + after that fan-cntr show that there is an issue?

at alom prompt, try turning the locator off...maybe you have that turned on by mistake...type help or ? at alom prompt and you will see the setting i'm talking about...or if that isn't it, post the logs from a cold startup with the diag-switch? set to true and level at max.

quick question...How to I acces the alom prompt? I am running a v100 with no serial ports; only USB and ethernet. I am accessing the system over ssh currently. Thanks
jsheffie at 2007-7-5 17:01:54 > top of Java-index,Sun Hardware,Servers - General Discussion...
# 5
not possible then. you need console connection to access alom.

Any other ideas?

post your /var/adm/messages file and your /var/adm/messages.0 and maybe there is something there.doug

sorry, i really don't see anything from those files....need console connection. If you have another sun box near by that has a 25pin B port use a cat 5 cable and connect with a proper 25pin connection to the alom port on your server and tip hardwire...make sure you are either consoled into the other machine or if not rsh, or the connection will be screwed up.

the sunfire v100 does have a com port you have to get a terminal cable to connect to ethernet port under the lom port

Could also be firmware for the EEPROM, disks etc. Best way to diagnoise, if you have a sun contract, is to download the explorer tool. Run this and forward to sun. Here's the link for the explorer tool:
