Unable to install gcc (SUNW0gccfss)

Hi!! Need help in installing gcc on SUN Solaris 9 (64 bit). After download gcc from SUN site, I followed the installation instructions but when I try to add tha package, pkgadd -d SUNW0gccfss, its giving me a "ERROR: no packages were found in </usr/local/apache/softw/SUNW0gccfss>".

Please help me install gcc on SOLARIS.

Make sure you specify the name of the directory after the -d option where you have downloaded, unzipped, and untarred the package.

pkgadd -d <download_directory_path> SUNW0gccfss

For example, if you the downloaded package is in /tmp/download

pkgadd -d /tmp/download SUNW0gccfss

Thanks Raj. I was able to install gcc. But I couldn't compile a test C program. The error I got is,

ld.so.1: /opt/gcc/libexec/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.9/4.0.2/cc1: fatal: lib_I_dbg_gen.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory

gcc: Internal error: Killed (program cc1)

Please submit a full bug report to

<URL:http://cooltools.sunsource.net Issue Tracker>.

I looked for lib_I_dbg_gen.so.1, but couldn't find it. I am running it on a 64-bit SOLARIS 9 machine. Do I have to re-install SOLARIS?

You will need to install the Sun Code Generator for SPARC

systems package (SUNW0scgfss) as well. This library is in

this package.

Please follow the download/installation instructions in

http://cooltools.sunsource.net/gcc/install.html

to download and install this package.

It is the second item on the GCC for SPARC systemsproduct download page. It is the package in thezipped tar file SUNW0scgfss.tar.gz.

Hi ALL,

AS per the instructions on the website :- http://cooltools.sunsource.net/gcc/install.html , i installed the scg package & then i installed the gcc package. Both the installation was successfull.

But if i execute a simple C Program ( Just a Hello World Program ), i am getting the following ERROR Message ;-

ld: fatal: relocation error: file /opt/gcc/lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.9/4.0.2/crtbegin.o: section .rela.text: invalid relocation type: 0x52

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

So Can anyone give some good solution...

Maybe the link error was due to a wrong version of 'ld'.Did you use /usr/ccs/bin/ld?If you link your program with -v option, you should see'ld' version number like this:ld: Software Generation Utilities - Solaris Link Editors: 5.9-1.390

it's a gotdata relocation.

Make sure you have all the required patches installed.

Barry,

you seems to be using an old version.

Could you try to download and install newer version 4.0.3 ?

Please make sure that you have all the required patches installed.

If problem still persists, please send us your solaris version, ld version and 'patchadd -p' output to gccfss-bugs at sun.com

I installed the new gcc version 4.0.3 from http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=44e24b9d

I am still getting the same error when using the compiler "gcc hello.c".

What patches should I install?

It's best to use the latest linker patch which is 112963-29:

Thanks Alex that solved the problem with the gcc.

However when using the cc I get the following error:

"language optional software package not installed".

I know the usr/ucb/cc script I am executing is a wrapper which calls the native C compiler with the /usr/ucb includes and libraries. I have both the SUNWscpu and SUNWbtool packages installed, however I am missing SPROcc. Do you know where I could get this?

Would just like to know...

I installed SUNW0gccfss 4.0.3 and SUNW0scgfss on a Solaris 10 system. When I set my path to /opt/gcc/inst and call gcc with any option such as:

bash-3.00$ gcc -v

bash: /opt/gcc/bin/gcc: Invalid argument

.. it always says "Invlid argument".

Has anybody seen this before?

Have you tried the fully qualified path:/opt/gcc/bin/gcc -vIf this works then the problem is not GCCFSS.I also grep'd the sources and can find no instance of "Invalid argument" in the GCCFSS sources.-Ross
