nic configuration

Dear brothers and sisters,

I have bought a ultra sparc2 machine last week . When I looked the back of the machine, it has two nic ports, one is tp port and the other is 100baseT port.

When I connect these two ports to the router and then I configured IP number in each of ports.

After type the command ifconfig -a, I found that these two ports has same mac address.

So this is the problem. How can I know which port is truely belong to that mac address?

Cheers!

I'm a bit confused, so I need to ask for more information.

If we assume the computer has no additional cards installed,

an Ultra-2 will appear to have two ethernet ports.

There will be an RJ45 port for 10/100 connectivity and there will be a 26-pin MII port (positioned just above it) for 10/100 connectivity.

Those are two different shapes for the exact same circuit.

Same circuit, therefore same MAC address.

You can use one or the other, but not both.

It would depend on the wiring need of the rest of your networking infrastructure in your building.

If you have an adapter card installed to one of the SBUS slots,

then that is a completely separate issue.

Get back to us with more information.

Do you have an adapter card in addition to the onboard NIC ?
