Aqcuiring IP from DHCP on UltraSparc60

We have a little trouble at the company:

We recently acquired some Sun UltraSparc60 systems, but we can't seem to configure the onboard ethernet controller to receive an IP from a DHCP server - which is a Windows System.

We need these connections for updates of Solaris. Which Solaris version we have, I don't know, but for all I know and saw, it's quite recent.

Then there may be the next problem: we hot-swap SCSI devices on the a separate SCSI adapter and we need to update the system to recognize the connected device without having to reboot.

Anyone to give a little help to these rookies/noobs?

Thanks!!!

DHCP is a standard protocol, so you shouldn't have any issues getting an IP address for a Sun box from a Windows server, or vice versa. As for setting a Sun box using a static IP to get an IP through DHCP, while you can do it by editing files, it is just easier to run the sys-unconfig command. Make sure you read the sys-unconfig command man pages. The command will erase all of your network settings.

As for installing new discs without reboot, I don't think the Ultra 60's support hot-pluggable drives.

I didn't mean hot-pluggable drives, like the Compaq/HP Storageworks JBODs, I meant unplugging a device from a standard 68-pin (e.g. the internal) SCSI cable.

We can do this with the Windows systems, but I know the architecture is miles off of Suns'.

It is really important we can do so!!!
