Limited connectivity to Solaris box from a Windows network
I know nothing about Solaris and little about networking, so any help would be much appreciated.
I have a Solaris box that part of our network is able to communicate with. It is running a program that must point to the IP address to access its database. We have 3 IP configurations on this network, two sets of static IP ranges and a DHCP range that can all communicate with each other. The two static ranges are the older configurations and computers using an IP in these ranges can view the Solaris box without issue. The DHCP range however cannot see the Solaris box. I do not have access to the Solaris box to make changes. Do you have any recommendations for settings changes on the Windows DHCP computers that would allow us to see this box? I thought about adding the IP and name of the Solaris box to the HOSTS file in Windows (works with another system we had with similar symptoms but diffent problem), but I am unable to resolve a name for the Solaris box using PING commands from a static Windows box and I'm not sure that the Solaris box even has a name like I am used to with Windows boxes.
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a time sensitive project. Thanks!
