Input Method and Portuguese accentuated characters

Since i have installed SJDS2 i have some problems typing Portuguese accentuated characters.

Opening a terminal, if i type accentuated characters only the corresponding character without the accent is typed. If I right click in terminal, and set the input type to "Default" or "Unicode Character Map" than I can type accentuated characters.

How can I set the default input type to "Default" or "Unicode Character Map"?

In the terminal and some other places ( inside mozilla mail, gedit etc). In SJDS this worked fine. In StarOffice 7 it works ok (i can type accentuated characters)

As anyone any info about this. this is very important. Am I the only one having this problem?

I tried to find something with this in the gnome site, but found nothing.

What I wanted

* Making the Input Method by default set to "Default" or "Unicode Character Map" in my system

* Disable completely the Input Method and expecting to have my system work correctly by default.

* Deactivate the Gnome Input Method switcher (and expecting that with this off I can type accentuated characters)

thanks,

Hello there:

Add a Portuguese keyboard layout:

Launch/preferences/keyboard/layout

Add/Portuguese and choose between Brazil or Portugal./Add/close

To switch between them add an "Utility" in your panel.

Right button in panel/Add to panel/Utility/Keyboard Layout Switcher

I hope that helps.

Regards.

Hi,

Ok, my problem is not a keyboard layout....doing what you said I can change my keyboard from US-layout to Brazilian-layout ( ABNT or ABNT2 ) but still have not characters like:

I only can have some portuguese character when I define US-layout keyboard ( + english language ) and type "" + " e " for example...when I repeat with " c " its result in " c " or something like that and not " " as I hope to see....

one question: how to install a en_US.ISO8859-1 locale?!

( to appear at /usr/lib/locale )

thanks

valter

Good Evening

I executed the command gnome-keyborad-layout

to change my keyborad layout of the Gnome Keyboard Default to some keyboard available in Portuguese because I live in Brazil. I changed to Gnome Keyboard Default for Brazil Portuguese Sun USB Keymap and my keyboard was very stranger so I back to Gnome Keyboard Default. My keyboard type is Sun TYPE 6 USB. I would be glad if you could help me with this case
