Windows operating system?

Hi,

I just have a quick question:

Is it correct that some of the Sun Java Desktop Systems doesn't support Windows operating systems at all?

I looked in some compatibility charts at the website, and judging by that it is correct. But, i was wondering if that's really the way it is, or it just means that it isn't official supported, but actually can run there?

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Sune

I am guessing that you might be confused by some of the naming conventions used for various Sun products.

You happened to post your question into a Linux forum.

The name of that very specific Linux distribution is the '<u>Sun Java Desktop System</u>'.

This forum is probably the wrong place for your question.

This is NOT a forum for Java support on 'desktop systems'.

Please correct me but I interpret your question to be about hardware.

... and NO, the Sun computers that use their UltraSPARC cpu modules will NOT run Windows.

They're a completely different sort of architecture.

Microsoft never ported any of their operating environments to that type of hardware.

(... just as Apple hasn't ported their OS9 to any x86 hardware)

Only the Sun computers that happen to use AMD or Intel cpu modules will run some form of Microsoft's OS's.

You can glance through the <a href="http&#58;&#47;&#47;sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/" target="_blank">Systems List in the Sun System Handbook</a>, model by model, to get a sense of what hardware products exist (current and discontinued).

Hi,

Thank you for your prompt reply, and sorry for posting in the wrong forums. My impression was that the SJDS was a series of hardware systems by Sun after browsing the products list.

Your answer was very helpful. Thanks!

Kind regards,

Sune
