Configuring Evolution for Exchange

I'm not very good at Exchange, but I try to explain my view.

I got Ultra60 with Solaris 10 and JDS 3.

I got DELL Precision 620 WS with Solaris 10 x86 JDS 3

I got DELL Precision 620 WS with SUSE SLES 9 JDS 3

All got the same problem

We have an IIS server that connects to exchange server.

Outlook connects directly to exchange server.

http:/webmail connects to Exchange thrue IIS server. (webmail)

Our exchange guys tell me I could connect either way.

If I set up evolution to connect thrue IIS it works but lack features (I'm not shure wich).

If I set up evolution to connect directly to exchange server, it can't connect.

Error: Can't connect to server got645.got.net, Try SSL.

I do get the password prompt.

Settings:

Echange server: got645.got.net

Windows Username: roland

Global Catalog server name: gotn030.got.net

In TAB Receiving mail, Is the authentication not for Exchange? (manual says just IMAP.

In TAB Receiving options, I dont set anything in Exchange server as it is for WEB connection. (I think)

Is it possible to connect directly or is the IIS the only way?

A snoop tells me:

got645.got.net -> sp608HTTP R port=34410

got645.got.net -> sp608HTTP R port=34410

sp608 -> got645.got.net HTTP GET /exchange/roland/ HTTP/1.1

got645.got.net -> sp608HTTP HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden

got645.got.net -> sp608HTTP le in IIS Manager (inetmgr),

This tells me it tries to go thrue IIS anyway!

sir i would reccomend posting in the Solaris forum as you are using JDS for solaris, here we mainly deal with the Linux based version. Regards

Does it really matter if I use Solaris 10 sparc, x86 or Linux ?

JDS Evolution is just the same right?

I will test on linux to see...

There is no notion that this forum is Linux only!

Which solaris forum are you talking about?

Yeah unfortunately there are significan changes, solaris is based on UNIX rather than linux and that in it self is alot different, the solaris version also is more of a "bolt on" than a full system like the Linux version of JDS.

I can understand it's a bit confusing and that there is no specific warning but the solaris 10 or Sun OS forum would be more appropriate for the issue you are having.

As I though. It is exactly the same problem running Linux. I'm using some beta Linux JDS 3. (got from Sun) # uname -r 2.6.5-7.97-default SUSE SLES 9

Hi Roland,

check if your Exchange server IMAP server is enabled.

You should be able to connect to Exchange not just with Evolution but with any email client that support IMAP protocol (thunderbird, evolution) if the IMAP server is enabled and in this case, yes it doesn't matter which OS you are using.
