I'm not sure what or how your system is configured. I would follow Sun's documentation when creating NISplus Root master, non root master. If you are running a NIS or NIS+ name service, the tsol_nis.tbx or tsol_nisplus.tbx file must be edited on the name service master before it can be used on the domain. Also, create/assume the System administrator role per their instructions. Then launch the smc at admin low. Load the toolbox for the NIS+ server you wish to load user accounts, i.e.,
name_server: Scope=name_service, Policy=TSOL
Create/assume the Security Administrator to add/modify security attributes of the user accounts. This will depend on your security requirements at your facility or place of business. Otherwise use the admin role to create, modify your user accounts.
Create a replica server for your NIS+ server. This will minimize disruption to your client workstations, Sun Ray Server clients and other servers on your network.
