installation problem with SGD EE 4.0 trial version

Hi All,

I have been trying to install the SGD EE 4.0 trial version on Solaris 10

(SPARC) and can't get around a problem.

I do everything as described on the installation page, create the

/tmp/tta_pkgadd script and the ttaserv and ttasys users and then run the

installer.

I get an error message:

Installation type = install 4.00.903

Installation directory = /opt/tarantella

Peer DNS name = ...

License mode = Evaluation (30-day limit)

HTTP port = 80 [not currently in use]

Archive logs every week? = yes (Sunday 03:00 hours)

pwd: cannot determine current directory!

/tmp/installMDaiFc/checkinstallODaiFc: no home directory

Error during installation. Setup will now exit.

Please correct any errors described in /tmp/tta_inst.log, and then try

again.

Any ideas about the problem?

Thanks,

Laszlo

Laszio,

Do you see any problems when running "pwd" or "ls" from a prompt? It

almost sounds like your system has been compromised.

You can try to debug the install further using the following technique.

$ touch /tmp/pkgadd.debug

$ sh ttaspso.shx

You should get verbose information logged to either the

/tmp/tta_inst.log or INSTDIR/var/log/setup.log

Post the content of this file.

Hi Laszlo

It looks like the directory you are currently working in and

installing from may no longer exist. At least that is what is implied

from the output of 'pwd'. The installer needs to know the current

working directory to install the product so if the directory you are in

is removed after you change into it I would expect the install to

fail in this way.

Barrie

I don\'t see any problems when typing pwd or ls. I re-installed Solaris 10

When I create /tmp/pkgadd.debug there is more printout during

There are a number of Linux specific error messages here that I presume do

not apply to Solaris. Also I have the SUNWcsl package installed.

This certainly looks like the root of your problems. That error message

comes from /bin/pwd, which the SGD install runs explicitly. I have no

idea why it should be failing.

You said that pwd works OK if you run it from a command prompt - is the

same true of /bin/pwd and /usr/bin/pwd? If both of those programs exist

on your system, are they identical?

What is your current directory when you start the SGD install? Do you

get the same result if you cd to a different directory (eg /tmp) before

starting the install?

Strangely switching to /tmp and running the install script from there

works.

Thanks,

Hello,

I tried evrything described in this email thread and I am also running

into the same problem as laszlo. Sol10 and SGD EE do not work together,

specially after the fact that Sun is planning to acquire Tarantella. This

needs to be fixed ASAP.

Please help!!!

Thanks,

Hi Mir

There are no known issues with Solaris 10 and installing SGD 4.0.

I can only help you if you give me some details about the specific

problem you are having.

Previously, in this thread, there have been reports of installs not

happening, but this looks like the install script was not being run in a

valid directory. A similar failure would occur on *any* operating system

with *any* install script.

If you can send me some more information, especially the results from

creating the file /tmp/pkgadd.debug, then I will try and help.

Thanks

Hi Mir

Not sure. It looks like the request script failed but for some reason

the trace wasn't on. In itself this is odd, the request script should

check for the presence of /tmp/pkgadd.debug and then do 'set -x' in the

script.

Can you try the 'pkgadd' install method I outlined in the other thread.

It looks like Sun substantially rewrote pkgadd for 10. We had to change

quote a few things before releasing 4.0, it's possible these are still

being worked through, or that Sun are making changes to pkgadd in

subsequent patches. Can you let us know which patches you have

installed. I'll see if I can get someone to check the install with

your patch level.
