Visionfs shares access from Windows Server 2003
Hi, we are having trouble trying to access a Visionfs shared drive from
Windows Server 2003. When I attempt to access the share, I get a "logon
unsuccessful" error, even though I try to change the user and password to
a known-good user. I have reset the passwords in visionfs, the unix
server, and Tarantella to make sure everything was right, then stopped and
restarted the visionfs services on the unix system. Nothing is working.
I have the systems set to use encrypted passwords under visionfs, and have
kept the 2003 policy settings for 3rd party SMB passwords set to
"undefined". Is there something obvious I am missing ? I understand that
this is untested, but it is a huge problem for us at the moment. The
visionfs version is 3.10.911 running on SCO 5.0.5/5.0.6, and we are
experiencing the same problem on two different servers (which we _can_
access from XP). Help, please !

Hello Matthew
NOTE: This should be posted on the Vision Family Newsgroup (which I have
included in the reply).
As per:
http://www.tarantella.com/support/faqv2k.html#v2kw2k
unfortunately, we do not officially support Window 2003 with VisionFS,
as we have not tested it. On the Vision Family NG you will see other
users posting problems as well. There was one user though who posted
that he found a way to get authentication working using Windows 2000
Active Directory:
NOTE: This is provide AS-IS. It has not been tested, and is not
guaranteed to work.

Officially got it working.
Got windows 2003 working in a windows 2000 domain running Active
Directory?
You need to configure VisionFS Auth using windows 2000 Active Directory.
Run ProfEdit as a VisionFS administrator.
Under password tab select
"Use a domain or another server" and enter "your domain server name"
Then restart VisionFS Locally on your UNIX server.
We also setup a guest account and played with the shared folder
permissions, but I think the info listed above is all I needed.
Thanks for your time,
Jason
Best regards
Carl

Whats up fella's
For those who haven't found a solution to the vision and win2k3 issue here
is something I found. On the windows side of things if you go into your
default domain controller security settings and click on local policies>
security options > disable: digitally encrypt or sign secure channel
(always). enable: digitally encrypt secure channel data. enable: digitally
sign secure channel data.
If you scroll down you will find four more settings starting with
digitally sign "" disable the rest of these settings you should be good to
go ..
