Boot Error

Hey, Im new to solaris. I have installed Java Desktop System. There is a boot problem. when I start my computer the solaris never gets to the login console. It gets to the login Console and Desktop System only if i keep the "Operating System" CD in the cd tray. It seems like it boots from the CD, why is that? how can i boot without cd.

Thanks

I've never seen that particular problem with Solaris. Are you sure the CD you have is Solaris and not the older Linux based version of the Java Desktop System? There was a live demo version of the linux-based Java desktop system which ran from CD as you described. Try this, place the CD into the drive so you can login. Login, open a terminal and type:

uname -a

then type:

cat /etc/*release*

The output of these commands will tell us whether you are running a linux JDS demo CD or JDS on Solaris. The GUI is very similar so sometimes I even have a difficult time distinguishing the Solaris from the Linux desktop. I apologize for the confusion.

You can download the latest "Solaris Express: as five downloadable CD iso files here:

http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/solaris-express/get.jsp

The install isn't yet quite as user-friendly as the live CD's "insert CD and login", but it you have trouble, check the forums on www.opensolaris.org or the #opensolaris internet relay chat (irc) channel on freenode.net.

Good luck!

Hi,Remove the bootable OS cd from the cdrom and boot it, when it reaches the boot menu, just type boot or boot -a and diagonise it. It will work out.Regards,Ganesh.

I can't type anything, it stalls at the PORT check in the boot. If i put cd in then it says (b) boot.
