J2SE Runtime Env. Update 5

Hi,

Im having a problem with my java. I have tried allsorts of diagnostics. I have uninstaled all versions and just reinstalled the latest update 5, but whenever i visit a java enabled application i get a red x saying applet failed. I have tried the proxy settings fix but no luck, registry fix but also no luck. I use IE 6 and Mozilla Firefox 1.7, but even when i try it with IE 6 it still does the same thing. My java is set too use browser settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
