Change the font.

About seven years ago, I was using Metrowerks C++ on the Mac. They had

a font specifically for source editors, Monospaced yet with unconfusing

'O's and '0's, 'l's and '1's and oversized punctuation: ',;.:' etc. I

can't remember the name. Does anyone know of a font that works well in

an editor?

Use a different font.

Tools - options - editor settings

Then rename the variable to something more readable like vvwvv...

..unless http://mindprod.com/unmain.html

is your home page.

No, this is even worse. The uppercase 'I' and the lowercase "L" are not

just close, they are identical -- just a vertical slash. When reading

code, one must know precisely what every character is. That was the

whole point of the original post.

Any TTF font installed in windows the normal way (either dragging to

the "fonts" folder or choosing "install new font" from the File menu

in the fonts folder) should automatically be available to any Java

app. You may need to restart the application, though. I'm not sure

if Java caches the font list or not.

not sure i should do that. if i paste the 0Ol1 on the right of the // (i.e

make it a comment), then it is easy to see the differences. so it looks

like netbeans is using a different font (or at least rendering it

differently) in different areas.

Check the font settings for java comments. You could have them set to a

different font.

Ok, I tried Adele Mono font. It is not quite monospaced. The tabs do

not line up. Too bad.

In the "Good Old Days(TM)" when I used to have to handwrite my programs on

coding sheets before they were input to the system, we used to use an O with

a slash through it to denote zero, the "1's" had a distinctive hook at the

top, and we used continental style "7's" to distinguish them from the

distinctivley hooked "1's". It's always been a puzzle why there doesn't

appear to be a font like this for code editors.

Hi all!

We have a form designed in NB 3.3.1.

The last time the form was saved, NB crashed

and since then we cannot open the form.

We always get the following message:

"The form format is not recognized"

I checked the file for any incorrect characters

or open tags or whatever but none found.

I tried to open it in NB332 and NB34Rc1 without

any success.

Please help us, it's urgent...

NB34Rc1 should provide some exception dump or more info why the

format is not recognized.

If it's really urgent, then send the form file... I'm also curious what could

screw up.

I know you asked about windows, but this is how

I did it on my linux box.

If there are any linux gurus out there who know

a better or easier way, please, for the love of

Pete, correct me.

I copy the file (with a lowere case ttf extension)

into these directories:

/usr/share/fonts/ja/TrueType/

$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/fonts/

Then I restarted the PC to update this file (I am

sure there is an easier way to do this, but I do

not know it):

/usr/share/fonts/ja/TrueType/fonts.dir

Then I copied that fonts.dir file to the

$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/fonts/ directory.

The beginnings of the lines line up. It is the tabs in the middle that get

screwy. Example:

<pre> int someVar = 15; // tab before the "=" and the "//")

int someOther = 15; // tab before the "=" and the "//"

</pre>

I have used spaces in the second line to illustrate, but you can see what

it looks like. I DON'T convert tabs to spaces. As you can see above, I

like to line things up all through the line and spaces don't hack it.

Yes, but in all fairness it was the installer that lied to me, not Windows.

(I still can't figure how why a font needs an installer.)

good idea. they are all monospace. but the method is bold and the comment

is italic. so the problem is with the plain monospace. i.e. void s0Ol1() {

String s0Ol1="0Ol1"; /* 0Ol1 */ } - the method and comment are easy to

read. the variable name and string literal are the probem.

yes, ibm did it that way (using ebcdic). the ascii people slashed their zeroes.

i would have thought that lucida console would be good, but from the sample

at

http://www.codestyle.org/servlets/org.codestyle.FontSampler?class=Lucida&fo nt=Lucida,

it looks like the '1' and the 'l' are too similar.

Where did you get Andale Mono from ? I had a look on the MS site but

they said they had discontinued their web core fonts program. I'm

using Lucidia Console but it would be nice to have a change and

Courier New is just plain ugly.

I'm not sure where I got it from. I did a google search and found it in

Hi!

I get this strange thing happening!

I mount a output directory for my compiler, to put the class files in.

Some times, this mounted directory disappears. I have failed to see a

pattern on when and why this happens.

It is not a big deal, I re-mount the directory, but it is annoying!

Any one with similar experience or may be it is some thing I did!

Cheers,

You can find slashed zero fonts (and Andale Mono) on

http://www.qsl.net/wa6axe/fonts.html
