Re: FTP filesystem.
Hi All,
I'm using FFJ 4 and can't mount FTP filesystems. The option simply isn't
there on the Mount menu. Anybody got any ideas why this is. My colleague,
who is also using FFJ 4 can mount FTP filesystems but we're completely
baffled as to why he can and I can't. I'd really appreciate some info on
this.
Thanks,
Bart

AFAIK the FTP tool is not contained by default in IDE. You have to install the
FTP File System module from NetBeans Update Center (it is one of the
Unmaintained modules there). After the installation it will be possible to
mount the FTP filesystem through the Mount menu.

Thanks Jara,
Got it installed and working. Only problem is that it doesn't seem to want
to see symbolic links so I can't get to the directory containing our source
code. It also seems slower than "local" access via our Samba server. Ah
well, worth a try.
Thanks again,
Bart

This is a step away from the initial question, but why not use cvsinstead of ftp or samba? You get remote access to the files, and versioning all in one neatlittle package, and the integration with netbeans/forte is seamless.

IMO, cvs is good for versioning of source files but it is quite bad for
binary files. Another point is when you have to access files provided
by someone else.

We don't have any problems using CVS for binaries. For example, we keep
certain JARs containing compiled library classes in CVS. We also keep
images etc. It IS however very annoying when somebody commits a binary that
is regenerated from source every time you build because then CVS starts
complaining.
