Instant Messaging Installation

We are trying to setup a complete Sun ONE Portal environment. The components included in the installation are as follows:

Sun ONE Directory Server 5.2

Sun ONE Messaging Server 5.2 Patch 1

Sun ONE Web Server 6.0 SP5

Sun ONE Calendar Server 5.1.1 Hotfix 1

iPlanet Delegated Administrator 1.2 Patch 1

Sun ONE Identity Server 6.0 Patch 1

Sun ONE Portal Server 6.1

Installation of the above components has been completed successfully.

Now, we want to install Sun ONE Instant Messaging 6.0 as part of the above installed components. The problem with Instant Messaging 6.0 installation is when we try to install Instant Messaging to integrate with the Identity Server and Portal Server, the following error occurs. After failed installation, we tried to uninstall Instant Messaging from the system to attempt a fresh installation, but, that too fails with an error. The package SUNWiimid and/or SUNWiimps do not get installed or uninstalled.

Note: The installation completes without any errors if Identity Server and Portal Server integration packages are not selected from the Installation components list, i.e., if a standalone installation is performed.

The erros show some problems with amadmin command which is run by the postinstall script of SUNWiimid package. These are syntax errors that occur when the installation program is trying to register the service using XML file.

Any help or hint or a lead will be highly appreciated.

Integration of IM6.0 and PS6.1 is not supported. At this point, you should be considering using the upcoming Sun Java Enterprise System, which includes compatible versions of IM and portal.

In the meantime, if you are not interested in the IM/PS SSO, there is an unsupported way to make the IM channel work with LDAP only. Let me know if you are interested.
