Sun ONE Calendar Server 5.1 clients?

Hi, I have a very simple question... If Outlook is the natural client of Exchange, which is the natural client of Sun ONE Calendar Server 5.1?!

I still using Netscape Calendar Server 3.51 and the clients are Netscape Calendar 4.71, so we are planning an upgrade of this tecnology or a migration to Exchange, but I don't know what client to use with the Sun ONE Calendar server for total compatibility.

Thank you,

HI,

I have to disappoint you ... there is not yet a client application for Calendar 5.x

As far as I know, the Calendar beta version 6.0 also doesn't have a client application, although I heard SUN is working on it.

When this needs too long, we are forced to go to Exchange ... hope SUN will hurry ...

So there is no "natural" client yet for total compatibility with the SUN Calendar Server 5.x or higher.

Miranda

The natural client for calendar server is the web based client that is used. Why mess with client-server apps and worry about administration and upgrades on the desktop?

So that people can at least get a pop-up window when a meeting comes up.I wish the web based client did just a little more, in terms of being interactive than it does right now.

Have a look at the Sun One instant messaging product, that can be configured to support even notification for Calendar to produce desktop popups without having the calendar web client open.

As far as a native client goes, there appears to be a drive in the direction of Evoloution for the linux/solaris platform. I believe that there is a native connectpr availble already for evolution. As far as Outlook goes, it is certainly possible to use it in some limited capacity as a native client to the calendar. I have also had success

with ujsing iCal on the Apple to Download my Calendar data for offline access. Check out the followinbg link to Rutgers University and see what they are doing. There is a link to a php script that can be loaded onto a web server to allow for calendar data access from various clients like outlook and iCal.

As a last comment, I believe Calendar version 6 has a connector be

ing developed that will present calendar data to outlook asthough

it was a native exchange server. (Don't quote me on that, contact

Sun and get them to talk to you a bout product roadmap)

Hope this helps!

Scott.

You can get the alerts via email so if you have an email client, it will give you the popup window that you have a meeting. Just set the reminder when you create the event.I have also heard that there will be a backend connector for outlook in Cal 6.
