iplanet 4.1.1 on AIX - Problem with Server not responding

Hi,

I keep running into the following error in IPlanet installed on top of

AIX:

[04/Aug/2001:10:09:21] failure (17194): Error accepting connection

-5994, oserr=72 (A connection is ended by software.)

We are running AIX 4.3.3.0 with Maintenance Level 8 and IPlanet 4.1 with

Service Pack 7.

When the problem occurs, the webserver stops responding to any request,

even a request to get a static HTML page.

The error seems to be very unpredictable. Sometimes it happens when

there is significant volume. Sometimes it happens when there is small

volume. Sometimes it happens when the only requests coming in are

getting a static HTML page. Sometimes in can happen several times in a

day. Sometimes it doesn't happen in 5-6 days.

The error seems to go away momentarily after we bounce the webserver and

it can come back within a couple hours or several days.

Does anybody know how to fix this error?

Thanks.

Fehmida

AIX is known to sometimes randomly return error 72 in response to poll()

requests. Typically this should not be fatal (it should just cause

problems for the one connection, not for all subsequant connections).

Have you contacted IBM for help?
