Problems starting imap, pop, smtp service

I have installed ims5.2 and the installation went on fine. I didn't install iDA.

On the Messaging server console under Start/Stop services, I could not able to start services for imap, pop, smtp and a error "Service is not responding" is been displayed.

I tried starting the servce in command prompt using start-msg command and it came out with a error message to run the messaging server with a user. The server is logged in as root.

Any suggestions please.
