Rejected Mail Issue - Bad return address
All,
I am getting a small precentage of mail from my server returned with to my users with the error:
Your message was not delivered because the return address was refused.
The return address was '<john.doe@xyz.com>'
I cant find much more detail in the error logs, but Im assuming this mail is being rejected by the mail server of the intended recipient which is not in the same domain as mine. Is there anyway to verify which server is rejecting the mail? Is there anything I can do to fix this issue as both the sender and recipient are valid accounts. TIA>

Check out the headers of the message to see where the message has been.
Is your reverse dns ptr record set up for this server? Does it match the server in your mx record? These are two parameters that some mail servers you are trying to send to may verify and may reject mail from your server if they dont match up.
I have looked in the headers, but there isnt anything that looks bad in them. I should also state that this issue is only on replies. Original emails sent to these addresses that are being bounced get through without any problem. Also and maybe more importantly, it is only on replies to certain domains ( such as AOL ). Any other ideas?
