SMTP ERROR in Messenger Express

This is iMS 5.2.

You compose a message in messenger express, click send then a greeted by a small popup window with the comtents that simply read "SMTP ERROR". In the http log (/msg-luke/log/http/http) you find:

[12/Jul/2002:15:18:26 -0500] luke httpd[15226]: General Notice: lebond[192.168.1.6] created message <c854a4.54a4c8@ou.edu>

[12/Jul/2002:15:18:26 -0500] luke httpd[15226]: Network Warning: saveSmtp: connect() failed

[12/Jul/2002:15:18:26 -0500] luke httpd[15226]: General Warning: saveSmtp failed: SMTP Error

in /msg-luke/log/imta/tcp_local_slave.log-0GZ5007IZKEKA8

15:18:20.74: SMTP routine failure from SMTPC_ENQUEUE

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not convinced that these two log entries are related, could be, but I do not think so right now.

In configutil have you defined, service.http.smtphost? If not, the default, then it is set to localhost. Can you telnet localhost 25?

If you get a response on port 25 on the same machine then I would increase the log level of the MTA and try from webmail again. It is upsetting that the webmail client does not give you more of an error message, it really should.
