iDA - Suffix - Installation - iMS52

Hi I have an issue on installing iDA which I am not sure about.

By root suffix is dc=iplanet,dc=com

My Solaris defaultdomain is iplanet.com

I am using iMS52 with iDS51.

When running ims_dssetup, it added o=internet, dc=iplanet,dc=com

Also I notice my ServiceAdmin user is uid=ServiceAdmin,o=iplanet.com,dc=iplanet,dc=com

My question is during installation of iDA what is my:

1. Enter the suffix under which the domain component (DC) tree in the Directory Server resides?

2. suffix to store its configuration data?

I tried entering dc=iplanet,dc=com for both but it did not work.

Why? Where did I go wrong?

Please try entering suffix o=iplanet.com instead of dc=iplanet,dc=com.I hope this works out for you.

Found the answer:For user data suffix enter => dc=iplanet,dc=comFor DC suffix enter default => o=internetFor Configuration suffix enter => dc=iplanet,dc=com

A followup questions. Why is it nescessary to have a DC suffix? Why can't you just have dc=edu as your root suffix and then create a dc=school under that which will house your ou=PeopleThanks,Bob
