License question

The Sun ONE Message Queue Platform Edition (PE) is a complete but basic JMS implementation and is free for both development and deployment.

That said, PE lacks some features that are pretty important to our enterprise customers. These features, which are available in our Enterprise Edition, include:

* Multi-broker support for highly scalable connections

* HTTPS support

* Multiple queue delivery modes

* Broker SSL support

* Massive connection scalability

Support pricing for PE is around $700/CPU. It is highly recommended that customers who choose to deploy with PE, buy the subscription and maintenance contract to ensure that they get access to Sun's product support and the latest patches for the product. PE also includes a trial license which you can activate to sample the value-added features available in the Enterprise Edition. This trial license is good for 90-days from the date of activation and you cannot use the "trial license" edition for deploying and running messaging applications in a production environment.

Our Enterprise Edition product is priced at $4000/CPU (retail) and support is a percentage of the retail price. This edition is for deploying and running messaging applications in a production environment. You can also use the Enterprise Edition for developing, debugging, and load testing messaging applications. It has an unlimited duration license. The license places no limit on the number of brokers implementing a Sun ONE Message Queue Message Service nor on the number of client connections supported by each broker. However, the license limits the Message Service to one host and one CPU; If the host has more than one CPU or you wish to run additional instances of the Message Service on other hosts, additional licenses are needed for each

additional host and CPU.
