Number of CPUs

Hi everyone,What is the optimum number of CPUs that iDS5.1 can use(4,6,8,16) ? We are using Sun/Solaris boxes.Thank you very much.

The DS performance will scale almost linearly up to 4 CPUs. After that, performance will increase only slightly with additional CPUs.

If you have a box with many CPUs and you are concerned about getting full utilization of the DS, you could run an additional instance of DS on the box (e.g. for replication).

Are you sure about the 4 CPU's "limit" in DS 5?

That was true in directory 3 but, there were big changes to the backend and, I haven't seen any paper from Netscape, ... iPlanet, ..... Sun (or whatever they are called when you read this) adressing the scalability issue. Do you have any link with this info?

No, I don't have a link, just some information from one of the developers who worked on the SMP scalability of DS 5. He found that the DS performance would scale linearly up to 4 processors, then much, much less than linearly after that.
