3.0 SP2 failing/crashing

Hello all.

I am running version 3 SP2 on Solaris 8. About every 3 days the portal goes

into partial failover, and usually fails altogether on the 4th day. The

problem seems to be in the webserver. Veritas points the problem to the

webservers pid file. It is the webserver and webserver admin that fail.

Originally, this problem happened everyday. Per Karthik of iPlanet, I added

"ulimit -H -n 1024" to the webserver startup script. That just prolonged

the uptime to that described above.

Anyone (Karthik) have any ideas what the problem is? I had a case open with

iPlanet for almost 2 months before Karthik came up with the above script

addition. We thought it had fixed it, but as it happens it didn't.

Thanks,

Matt

You would have to move away from sp2 to sp3a. There are architectural changes that would help you get a a better performance as well as much more stability when moving to sp3a.

Its hard to say what could be the problem without looking into all the details of what is happening when the actuall crash occurrs. The number of sessions, the percentage of cpu/ memory used and ofcourse the log files.
