Secure Remote Access Pack: What's the Big Deal?

I am looking at Enterprise Portal Server, Secure Remote Access Pack, and

trying to understand what this really buys me in terms of Remote

Access. From the supporting material on the iPlanet web site, I can't

tell whether it requires certificates on the client, or uses underlying

technology like a secure net key to authenticate behind the fire wall.

Can someone give me a simple explanation of why the Secure Remote Access

Pack is better than more traditional approaches to security? Are there

any disadvantages to using this pack?

Secure Remote Access pack acts more like a dynamic vpn and allows you to use

the netlets/netfile for accessing remote tcp/ip applications like a mail

client or teltnet or other applications.

You don't need a client certificate for every client but you would need a

certificate for the secure remote access pack.

The authentication happens on the server side and not on the secure remote

access pack.
