OOBC on Unix

Has anyone had the need to use Forte with ODBC in a Unix platform? We

need ODBC in Unix but Forte does not currently support this. I would

like to know if other sites have encountered this problem and how did

you work around not having Forte support ODBC on Unix. How important is

this feature to Forte users?

With Forte this is easy. Add an NT machine to your environment,

partition an environment-visible ODBC resource manager to it and let

all the UNIX boxes call it remotely. We did something similar when

we ported our application from Windows NT to Solaris. We just left

the GenericDBMS(Sybase) resources behind on NT until we got Oracle

and our database running on the Unix box. Then repartition and presto

you are back to normal. I think this strategy would work just as

well for ODBC as GenericDBMS, though I havn't actually tried it.

Of course you have to commit to running in distributed mode permanently.
