SOS !!! Help Urgently required....

Hi,

I have a major crisis at our end. Could anyone help me. In the repos

directory on the Central Forte server (on NT)there is a *.db file which

is occupying as much as 950MB space. We are in full swing

with our work & we are running out of space. The following steps were

followed religiously.

step 1 rpstop

step 2 rpclean without -q option

While trying to run rpclean we are getting a error

folder not found in workspace repositoryadministration and exits

without performing rpclean

But rpclean with -q option goes through without any errors, but still no

space is recovered.

We also tried doing an rpcopy but it too exited giving an error.

Hi Mohan,

here is a process that we at IBIS do occasionally to clean out our repositories. It usually greatly reduces the repository size. MAKE SURE you have a backup copy of the repository, in case something goes awry (This could be a problem if you are short on disk space, but maybe you can zip the files and put them on another computer or a zip drive).

This will clean out all unreferenced classes in the repository.

1) Have everyone integrate their workspaces.

2) Create a new workspace and include only those projects that you want to save.

3) Export the entire new workspace using FScript

4) Remove the repository files from the hard drive (make sure you have them backed up somewhere).

5) Create and start a new repository, preferably with the same name as the old one.

6) Create a base line workspace in the new repository.

7) Import the exported workspace from the old repository.

8) Integrate the base line workspace, and you should have a clean repository that takes up a lot less disk space.

Hope this helps

Mohan,

I experienced the same problem with rpclean. It was caused by

not having enough space available for rpclean to do it's job. My

repository became corrupted when rpclean failed, hopefully the same is

NOT true for you. My solution was to restore. Your solution could be

only freeing up some space and doing again, and in addition incorporate

Kamran Amin idea every once in a while to save space.

For more information refer to tech note #8767.

Tell everybody to update their workspace and integrate. When everybody

has integrated. Create a new workspace and export the workspace.

Create a new repository and import the exported workspace. This is the

best way to deal with a large repository.
