IAS 6.0 installation prblm in win NT 4 and sp 6
i was installing ias6.0 sp1 in windows NT server with servick pack 6 . Problem is while it copying files it says that "Unable to start the index.exe". Continue installtions "Yes"/"No", that index.exe was under slapd/admin/bin/index.exe. if say "yes" then it will say it is unable to load configuration into Directory server port 389. it will stuck there . If say "No" it will come out ,directory server could not startup .
I know it is the problem with directory server , but unable to figure out why.Any kind of help is appriciated.

Hi,
Although I have installed iAS numerous times, I was not successful
enough to come across such an error, but I would like to help you. Please
ensure the following are met...
- Log in to the system as administrator only.
- Are you trying to configure the iAS with existing iDS or installing
iDS, which is bundled along with iAS.
- If you have an existing iDS then please verify that the port number
for communicating with iDS is 389 only.
- If all the above is met & doesn't helps, please post me the exact
error message that you see on the screen.
Regards
Raj

After Simulating the same problem i got the solution atlast for getting "<serverroot>\bin\slapd\admin\bin\index.exe" error
the Error might be due to:
(1)your NT system might be missing a tcp/ip domain name
solution :
check your dns server, check whether its running (All the servers listed will be on ,see if your machine(server) is listed in the server , if not add your machine with the valid TCP/IP Domain name and restart the DNS Server )
(the problem was solved for me in this step)
(2)Check whether the directory u r installing has NTFS partition if not , try installing under a directory which has NTFS partition.
This will definitely solve the problem . if not notify me.
