Trouble Installing Test Drive

I am up to this part of the install:

"Enter the FULL PATH of the Web Server Instance to be used:"

I looked on the Iplanet support page and found this:

"By default, the web server is installed in the /usr/netscape/server4

directory"

I don't know what this is referring to. Did I have to install a Netscape

Webserver first before installing Iplanet?

Thanks,

Joe

I think I was trying to install the application server without Netscape

Webserver installed first.

Thanks,

Joe

It's technically possible to use the iAS without any web server

(communicating directly via CORBA) but this is seldom done and most

often folks use a web server.

You need to install the iPlanet Web Server before installing iAS. A

single iWS installation can run several web server instances - you just

need one. By default iWS will install an instance named

<installdirectory>/https-<servername>. e.g. if your host was named

"cheezwiz" then it might be:

/usr/local/netscape/server4/https-cheezwiz

This is the pathname that iAS wants. It intends to install the iPlanet

webconnector module (an NSAPI modules) into that server instance's

directory tree.

iAS well also need a directory server, but it will install it's own

iPlanet Directory Server if you don't have a directory previously

installed (no pre-installation needed).

Finally iAS will need a database. It's compatible with most of the

"usual suspects". If you have no database it comes with a database

called Pointbase. Pointbase is suitable for small demonstrations but is

not suitable for production under anything but the lightest loads.

Tim
