Cannot register Application Server

I am attempting to install ias Enterprise Edition (6.0 SP3) on solaris 2.8.

After installation I ran the ias-samples/fortune example to verify that the

application server was running, which it was, but I am unable to register

it with iASAT. When I enter the username 'admin' and password 'admin', as

entered in the setup I get the error message :

"Cannot log into the server. Please check that your entries are correct."

and in the ias/logs/ias.log file:

[23/Oct/2001 15:27:46:4] info: SECURITY-003: Authenticate error, unknown

principal admin

[23/Oct/2001 15:27:46:4] error: ADMIN-010: kas> error: invalid administrator

password!

I definitely set the username and password to both be admin, and have

uninstalled and then reinstalled ias twice to confirm this.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hi,

Not a problem and this occurs because of several reasons. Please review the

following and let me know the results.

- Check to see that you have a static IP address and DHCP is disabled

- When you click on local host, you cannot have 127.0.0.1 at the text field

against hostname

- Please let me know if you encountered any errors/warnings while

installation

Raj

Hi,

Just check if your adminserver is running. you can start the admin server in

<ias installation directory> start-admin. Check if kas is running. You can check

it from <ias installation directory>/ias/bin. and run kas start. Hope it will

help you.

Let me help if the problem is resolved.

thanks

Unknown principal means that your admin user was not created/registered.

This usually happens if during installation, your dns suffix was not set

correctly.

I'm attaching a document which shows you how you can manually fix the

problem and add the admin user.

First Installation : I installed IAS 6.5 on my win2k machine from basesetup.exe (inspite of the warning abt the DNS entry).

this installation didnt work ....

-IAS Administration tool

when loaded would list out my server but would not connect to the server. (unknown principle)

-iPlanet console

when I search for the users (leaving the query field blank). Only "Directory administrators" entry is listed.

Second installation :

set my DNS ....... but still the same results

Third Installation :

cleaned up registry and etc etc.

Still same results

Forth installation : Waiting for help :)

Intrestingly all the above installations went on with out any error messages.

Also We managed to install iAS on another win2k machine (same config as mine) without the above problems. problems faced on this machine are, running the sample applications. when we open the fortune quick test example . the login goes through but the page is not displayed(error message : page cannot be displayed).

According to me, domain name is not entered in your system or your IP address is not entered in the DOMAIN.

steps to solve your problem

1)Uninstall the Sun one application server on WindowsNT

2)Clean the registry or format the system(Better format the system)

3)Check your Static IP

4)Set the DOMAIN NAME to your system and enter the IP Address or ur system name in Domain. To set the IP Address in your domain, you need to contact system administrator

5)Then install it.
