Problems installing iAS 6.0 SP3 (Test Drive) on Win2000 (SP1 or SP2)?
Hi!
Does anyone here has luck installing iAS 6.0 SP3 (Test Drive) on Win2000
(SP1 or SP2)?
I use DHCP, and as per the instructions i installed the Windows Loopback
adapter, assigned a
fixed IP address, took care of the DNS entries. The Network settings are set
as per the
very little documentation iPlanet provides. I have also went thru all the
postings here and picked
up all the related pieces and took care of the settings.
The installation goes fine and the Server is up and running. I can run
the Fortune sample.
But I can't register the Server on Admin tool and can't deploy apps. I
simply cannot do anything
with this. Every time i try to register the server on the Admin Tool, it
gives an error
"Cannot log into the server. Please check that your entries are correct.".
I stopped the KAS service and ran kas on the command line with a -debug
option.
Then it gives an error saying
"Info: SECURITY_003: Authenticate error, unknown principal admin"
"error: ADMIN-010: kas> error: invalid administrator password!"
I know 100% that the user id that I setup for administration was "admin" and
the password also I
setup as "admin". I have installed atleast a 20 times on 4 different boxes
with win2000 sp1 and sp2.
It still gives the same error. I installed it on Solaris 8.0 and it works
fine. And I am stuck with this stupid
software. I am really concerned as it to the reliability of this software.
Has anyone come across this problem and had any luck getting past this
error. If so, I would really appreciate if
you could give me some tips as to how i can get it working.
Thanks

Please try to register iAS with the IP address of the system where you have
installed and check if it helps.

Hi Raj,
First of all, as far as i know, the installer for iAS-TestDrive-Sp3 deosn't
allow you to choose any admin password or ports, it has a set of defaults for
passwords -
iAS Admin server
Username : admin
password : admin
Directory server admin (Netscape Console)
username(for both user and configuration directory) : admin
password(for both user and configuration directory) : admin
Directory server Manager
Distinguished Name(DN) : cn=Directory Manager
password : DManager
However if you have any problems with the defaults than you change the iAS admin
password -
- just open the netscape console - from Start/Programs/iPlanet Server
Products/NetscapeConsole.
- give the password and port number,
- click on the Users and Groups and type "NAS Administrator" in the search
field, (it will show you two users with User ID),
- select the second one (User ID = admin) and choose edit,
- now change the password to the required one, and use this user name and
password for admin tool and deployment tool.
Hope this will help, if you have any further problems please feel free to mail
me.
Sanjeev.
