Solaris 8.0 IAS Installation cannot determine the Domain name
Please do not yell but ...
I need to install the Web Connector on a Solaris 8.0 IWS 4.1 so I can
forward to an iPlanet appserver (6.) on a Windows box. I have set the
Solaris box to the best of my ability (sorely lacking). I added DNS (kind
of) and LDAP (sort of).
I get:
Warning: Installation cannot determine the Domain Name for this Host. Your
network settings may not be correct., or your host may be on a DHCP network.
If you are using TCP/IP your Domain Name must be filled in.
OK -
The machine has a fixed IP = 192.168.103.95
The name is SunBlade - SunBlade does not resolve on the DNS but the fully
qualified SunBlade.eisi.ca does (perhaps the problem)
I am using TCP/IP.
I do not know what to do. I realize that this is probably basic DNS/network
management for a UNIX guru but I am fairly lost in the woods here. I did
have the same issue on the Windows install and used the My Computer/network
settings solution. I am assuming I need to something similar here but I am
not sure what to do.
Any and all help (even sarcastic) is appreciated,
Joel

There is an easy fix. To fix the domainname, use the domainname command.
Just enter : domainanme eisi.ca
Also create a text file in /etc called defaultdomain that contains the
same value. (This sets the domainname when the system boots.)
