IAS6Sp2 on Win NT/2k
Hey,
I tried many times, at least 10 times, to install iAS6sp2 on windows NT
and 2000. Only two of them were successful. Most of the time it just
installed very fast but nothing was really written to the hard drive. I
tried different combinations, Win NT Server, Workstation, Win 2K advanced
server/server/professional, with or without service pack (all of them are
clean installation without any software installed except iWS 4.1 sp7), they
just won't work. I am so so frustrated about this. The only thing good is
that the instance installed on a Win2k advaced server runs well and we
depolyed some examples on it and work fine. I just don't understand why it
sometimes works but sometimes don't? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks a
lot.

The install on W2K has several key configuration requirements:
1) NTFS filesystem
2) Static IP Address
3) FQDN defined in System Control Panel, Start > Settings > Control Panel >
System. Select the Network Identification Tab, Properties button, then More
button. Add the desired domain name in the "Primary DNS suffix of this
computer" line. Reboot. Check that the changes have taken effect using the
command "ipconfig /all". It should display something like the following:
E:\>ipconfig /all
Windows 2000 IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : gaea
Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : test.com
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Mixed
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : test.com
4) Install iAS 6.0.
The DNS requirement in #3 above has perhaps been assumed, not completely
explained.
Cheers,
Dan

I've done many succesful installs. On NT, the most likely causes of problems
are FAT file system, DHCP, missing domain name (DNS entry under TCP/IP, not NT
domain), incorrectly set PATH, existing previously installation of Directory
Server or iAS that were not cleanly uninstalled.
