I got the following error pretty much straight away:-

I take it that it all means my video card isn't up to the job?
Didn't work on here either, webstart loaded the game then displayed a forest in the top left hand corner of the screen, then my computer hung and I had to reset it :(
But I wouldn't worry as I've yet to get any webstart game working on my computer.
Excuse my ignorance but what is the point of webstart anyway?

Yep, that happened to me too

This isn't so in my case, I have got 1 or 2 working and like a fool I keep trying ...the usual outcome is not pretty.
- The computer completly freezes and I have to turn it off
- there is a partial loading of the app (at least that's what I assume) as I can do certain things to the on-screen sprites with my mouse or the arrow keys (and then it hangs), but I only get the map area and nothing else and no quit option

Its a Billy Gates Gruff conspiracy to destroy the reputation of java.
I bet I'm not the only one here who thinks WebStart is a pile of shite
To use game
move : mouse drag
quit : esc key

Web Start is just a mechanism that allows applications to be network deployable. The application resides on the network, and users can download the remote application to their machine (and store it locally) so that they can use it. If the application is ever updated/patched, Web Start will download the latest version from the server. It is sort of like network-installing an app, only the developer gets the power to patch the program and then automatically update everyone's copy by putting the new one on the server. The user has the advantage of locally storing the application (and, of course, the automatic update feature). Plus, I think, since the application is deployed on the user's machine, it runs as an application would and is not constrained to a web browser, so that could be another advantage. The best source of information would be the Web Start white paper, though, as I am only extrapolating from what little I know about the feature.
