before learning how to code a game you should learn how to code.
try these books/tuts:
http://modena.intergate.ca/personal/iago/javatut/ (gameprogramming)
http://www.ibiblio.org/obp/thinkCSjav/ (general)
http://iwi2-biw.iwi.unisg.ch/sw_support/java/jdgfm~1.htm#I7 (general)
http://www.codeguru.com/java/tij/tij_c.shtml (general
http://java.freeq.de/eckel/TIJ-1st-edition.zip (general)
There are other Books:
http://gamejug.org/books/
and on sourceforge is a GameSDK:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/java3dgamesdk/
yeah i know a bit of C++ and javascript html... but thank you for replying i am gonna give you the duke dollers i have on this subject cuz you replayed perfectly :)
Wrong, the best way to learn coding is a game, it has it all, sound, images, rules, user input. The porblem is that most people want to write some really cool game first thing. Start small, like pong. It will let you learn the basics, ie loops, images, etc. Then move to the killer 3D shoot em up.
Steps: (just a quick outline, to get you started. Take them one at a time and you will build the reuired knowledge)
1 Get user input
2 Respond back to user input
3 show an image
4 move an image (loop)
5 move image via user input
6 apply game rules
etc....
There are a few good books on Java gaming as well
yeah i wasnt looking to make some over rated spectaculer 12 vector game :) i dont wanna be a funcom hehe.. who has nothing but memory leaks in Anarchy Online. and they go along with the users who say its lagg cuz they dont wanna say that they didnt teminate the lines in the code where appicible... just wanna acomplish something fun.. and since games drive the whole computer industry then it would be an acomplishment for me... (a A+, Net+, computer technition, who ran a web server for a year and a 1/2 but shut it down cuz i didnt feal i had enough people to make it worth monitoring the firewall almost all the time.)
i dont know exactly what you were saying wrong to. but there is just a lil history on me :)
What I meant was that I disagree about learning to code first. I believe that the best way to learn is to jump in with both feet, can't fail if you don't try, and by failure we learn the most. I spent 2 weeks trying to figure out a flicker problem in my first game, finally did and will never forget how I did it. So, pick a game and have at it, we will be here if you stub your toe.... Game on!!!
Btw exception.. i was reading some of your other posts... i read the one about you woking for origan... wanted to say you guys are DA BOMB! i played ultima online since i was a kid on my comadore 64/128. i still have it in my closit along with the ultima trilogy (for pc on a 5 5.25 floppys) and ultima II for my comadore. i used to sit in school thinking of where to go when i got home... i never did get a darned boat though grr.. :D i think that alot of the newer RPG's are missing the reason to play an RPG. you dont play an rpg to see everything exactly the way you would see it... your supose to use your darned imagination.. thats why i like the ultima online... cuz it isnt about the multi pixils. its about making a enjoyable game... now though its about making a game that is on the low end graphics... we have to stop basing games on graphiocs and start basing them on playability and funness like back in the days i was a kid. (not to long ago was born in '83) started playing at age 7 (on nintindo) age 8(commidor 64).
just wanted to say thank you to you.. for being a exxallent programer backwhen i was a kid.
