advisor (or at least advice) needed for first full-scale project

I have been working off and on for the last four or five months to write my first full-scale project in Java... in this case, a rewrite of the Star Dart server (http://www.stardart.net/). However, I've spent hundreds of hours working and learning but am up against a roadblock. The game logic is mostly finished but I am completely tangled up in the networking right now. I've worked and reworked my code (and done lots of reading) but what I need is someone who would... well, erm... educate me. Just a wee bit.

I am very interested in Java GAme Development, but I don't have the opportunity to formally study it, and my work doesn't intersect with programming at all -- so I am a bit isolated from anyone who could give me some oversight. Is there anyone out there who could give me a bit of their time to help me get to the next level here?

Source for the 100% Java rewrite is available at http://www.stardart.net/StarDart100302.rar

I think if you posted a description of your problem, a lot of people would be interested in giving you help. By the way, why do you use a proprietary closed archive format such as rar, when there are plenty of free archive formats around?

Well, I have been using rar for a long time now, I didn't realize one company still owns all rights to rar compressors... I'll be looking into switching my stuff over to something else. Any recommendations?

I'm not up against a specific problem on Star Dart, unfortunately. Or maybe I just don't know what the problem is :) This may not be reasonable, but my ideal circumstance would be to find someone willing to offer some guidance as to what I need to be focusing on.
