Elite in Java

Hi all,

Anyone care to check out my port ofElite

(the classic space trading game) to java.

It still has some way to go, but you can

fly around and trade, pretty neat.

Uses Java WebStart for deployment,

and tested under JDK1.3 and JDK1.4

anyways, pop over to http://javanicus.org

and let me know what you think.

jez.

(And your more than welcome to help code the rest with me...)

Wow, that is REALLY cool... I loved that game when I was a kid. I always felt the controls were a little awkward though w/o a joystick...

I'm gonna try this out. You ever play the game Jumpgate? I was just thinking it would be cool to try to create such a game in Java, and make it multiplayer. Obviously a huge project, but I thought it would be really cool.Up for some informal discussions on it?

Wow, really very good. When I turned around and saw the space station it brought back some memories of playing the game. Really nice job in recreating this game.

I had no problems. Came up without issue. That's the way it should be!

My goodness, someone else who used to have a BBC Micro. They were great computers eh!!!

I played Elite on my BBC for ages - pretty sure I got to Elite in the end. I loved using manual docking and getting myself rotating at just the right speed to get through that door without scraping!

I still own an Acorn A4000. Doesn't get much use these days though. I used to write quite a lot of ARM assembler. I believe the new PDAs have ARMs in them these days - maybe I should dust off those old skills.

Regards,

Tim

This looks like it will be great once it will be completed. Much better than the simple Java games that we see usually.BTW, I have never played Elite (dont't even know about it), so I'm only judging your game by itself. And it still impress me. Good work!
