JAVA 3D opinions needed

Hi,

I'm programming java for some years now, and I was wondering about using the java 3d api for some leisure purposes. What are your opionions about this api? Is it fast, or isn't it worth bothering...

I've taken some courses on ogl & d3d for c++ but I'm more comfortable programming java than c++ so I'm looking for the java alternative. But I'll only switch off course if the java alternative is good...

tnx for your replies

Jeroen

Interestingly, you are the only person who has ever asked this question. A quick search of the site does not raise many results for it. I personally have never answered this question before.

If my previous paragraph is entirely and provably false, the evidence would be on one or all of these pages:

...etc. Using the search facility never killed anyone.

The same debate also turns up from time to time on the Java3d-interest mailing list and over at http://www.javagaming.org more useful resources on http://www.j3d.org

The consensus is usually that it may not write Doom 3 but if you are an amateur developer without a team of 50 programmers and designers then you're not going to write Doom 3 either and the convenience of the facilities Java3D offers is more than enough to balance it out.

Take a look at http://www.cosm-game.com/ to see what kind of things are being done with Java3D now.
