java applet not loading

My kids play the yahoo games, and they always worked until about 2 months ago. Now it won't load the applet to open the games. I have tried everything I can think of and what different people have told me. So was just wondering if this happen to anyone else. I have RR and windows 98SE. Somebody told me that maybe something got corrupted. If anyone can help I would appreciate it, thanks

I have heard of that same problem with Windows 98SE, The fix was to go reinstall the Java Runtime(JRE). I think if you download the 1.4.0 JRE that should fix the problems. CoolMoDee

Thanks for the info, I installed it but it didn't work. It looks like it wants to but then it stops. It'll say opening page, then just goes to done at the bottom and nothing. Don't know what else to do. If you think of something else let me know, thanks

in IE 'Internet options'(in 'Tools'), enable the Java Console. Then, when the page with the applets on it fails to load, open up the java console (in 'View' i think)post the error msg, and we will be able 2 tell you whats wrong.rob,

Did what you said, went to view and clicked on java console but no error message came up on screen. When I clicked on java console should the error message come right there or some place else? I also enable the java console. thanks.

yes, any Java related errors will be shown there. Try making the console visible before bringing up the page with the appplets on it.The other possibility, sis that yahoo has removed the Java games?post the link to the games, I will check they work.rob,

This may sound stupid but not sure what you mean. If it is to just click on view to console without being at the yahoo games that's what I have done and it still doesn't show any errors. Do you think if I give you my email addr. you can take me step by step. I know that's asking alot. thanks

if nothing appears in the java console, then the problem is not likely to be Java related.are these games available to anyone?post the link to them if they are.

You need to have the java console open, go to the yahoo games, attempt to play one, and then see if any errors are put into the java console.

When I click on a game another page opens, it looks like it going to open but it doesn't, then when I click on view and scroll down to java console nothing happens, no errors show.

I finally got it working but with Netscape 6.2. Why won't it work with IE?

Works fine for me on IE. Are you using the java plug-in (does a coffee-cup icon come up in your system tray?)

Yup got Java plug-in. Can't tell if it's a coffee cup, it's got red and blue color. All I know is that it won't work with IE, but works with Netscape 6.2.

I had corruption when I was having problem similar to yours. My problem is that I had just installed a new JDK (1.4.0 I think). If you have multiple JDKs installed and especially if you've reinstalled 1.3.x on top of them, your Java setup is likely corrupted. I believe Netscape 6.2 has it's own version of Java. If you want to get it working in IE again, Here's what I would do (and this is what finally worked for me) : Uninstall all the JDKs from your box (just the one's from Sun). If you need multiple versions, start with the oldest one first, then reinstall. Some of the first 1.4.0's, and betas were actually corrupting the installs (I think this might have been reported as bug as well). I hope this helps someone, cause it was sure painful at the time.

thanks Bryan, If you got the time can you tell me step by step because I'm not to good at this. I can tell up until yesterday I hadn't downloaded anything. Yesterday I download Java plug-in and I don't know if this is the same but 1.4.0 I downloaded. When I try to open in Yahoo it looks like it wants to open but don't.

I have the same ongoing problem. I unistall all versions of Java and reinstall the one that works for awhile j2re=1_3_1_02. For no apparent reason it suddenly gets corrupted when the console attempts to automatically load and freezes Windows 98 requiring a Ctrl_Alt_Del reset. After this occurs even trying to start Java from the Setting-Control Panel freezes the computer. I then have to uninstall, download and reinstall all over again. I think there may be some clash between Netscape 6.2 and IE?

Well so far so good, on Netscape 6.2 haven't had any crashes. When on IE the pc would freeze all the time. Only when the kids would play the games. I download JRE 1.4.0 seems ok. I just want to thank all for some good advice. thanks
