Keyboard mapping

Can I type in german characters into a text box without mapping my keyboard to support german characters? Can this be done programmatically?

The example you tried for the Input method can give you the answer to your question. Using the example you are inserting Hebrew characters using Latin keyboard. So, as like, you can create input method for german and map the german character with your default keyboard.Is it
