help slow execution

Hello, can anyone help?

I am running java 2 sdk 1.3 on a respectable machine (700 MHz, 256MB swap file, 128MB) and yet half the time when I run a program it executes at an impossible snail's pace.

The other half of the time it runs fine. There seems to be no rhyme or reason... can anybody help? Has this ever happened to anyone?

Incidentally, it happens whether I run java from the console, or thru ffj 2.0, ffj 3.0 or netbeams 3.2, as I currently am...

no info in the knowledge base... please help!!!
