Virus on mobile phones?

Does anybody know how security (i.e. virusprotection) will be handled when j2me is integrated on mobile phones?

Siemens has its SL45i and with its own extensions gives access to a couple of functions of the device itself (phonebook, SMS sending etc.). How can it be avoided that new viruses will come up which for instance send SMS-messages to everybody in your phonebook (and as SMS-messages can push an application, can basically spread themselves through this mechanism).

It depends upon the network provider, doesn't it. The mobile phone has to connect through your telecoms company, so anything downloaded could be virus checked on the server before being delivered.Or am I missing the point of your post?

As far as I know the Siemens SL45i for instance asks for permission before a MIDlet can read the phone book entries, send a sms or start a call.
