JRE will crash on NT4/Win2K if not logged in as admin !

I have this problem with JDK/JRE 1.2.2 as well as with JDK/JRE 1.3. I already posted this about a year ago but didn't get any replies.

Although I have only the full JDK installed I think it is definitely a JRE-related problem:

I can only run Java apps on Windows NT4 or 2000 if I have logged in as Administrator or if I have logged in as an user with Administrator rights. Otherwise, the JRE will crash with an protection fault (don't have the DLL and address handy).

This happens regardless if I have installed the JDK as Administrator or as normal user w/o admin rights.

I can't imagine that I can only run JAVA apps with admin rights, that sounds stupid to me. Is there noone else out there having the same problems ?

Thanks for any help.

Torsten

I am having that problem w/ 1.3.1_02 still. It does not crash, it just does not ever load. The applet does not load, neither does the 1.3.1 control panel little app. I can run it against Spicer's ViewCafe software fine if I am an admin / domain admin on an NT 4.0 network. But that is NOT going to be realistic. I have played w/ the JavaSoft registry settings, the winnt\java directory, and other permissions to no avail.

ANYONE with good information would be helpful with this annoying problem. Main businesses use NT w/o admin rights so this is a stupid problem to have to troubleshoot, I agree.
