How do you clean reinstall Java in win2k?
Hello.
I have been working on this problem for weeks and I am very close to giving up and burn my computer and become Amish. :(
It seems like Java plug-in isn't working, none of java applets on websites doesn't work. I have looked into Microsoft website, but noticed that their support for Java is very weak/outdated. I have all the updates for win2k from MS website, btw.
I have downloaded the newest Java plug-in from this java.sun.com, and have installed it. However, under downloaded program folder, Java Runtime Environment 1.3.1 is listed as Damaged. And the problem still persists.
I figure that only way to fix this problem is completely reinstall Java Machine in win2k, however could not find a way from MS site.
I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me.
Thank you.

Hi,
(1) First uninstall the Java Runtime Environment 1.3.1 from settings-->controlpanel-->Add/Remove Programs.
(2)Then go to the directory where you installed the JRE1.3.1 and remove the remaining files which are there.
Better remove the "javasoft" directory (where JRE1.3.1 is stored by default).which is located in Program Files directory.
(3) Then again install the JRE1.3.1 newly.(it will be stored by default in C:\Program Files-JavaSoft-JRE1.3.1).
(4) Then go to the settings-->control panel-->java plugin 1.3.1 and click the Advanced button .In that select the path(Java Runtime Environment) where your JRE1.3.1 is stored and save(apply button) it.
If your are still facing problems please let me know and post the errors which you got.
Hope this will help you.

Oops, I think I didn't explain the problem clearly.
The problem existed before I have installed Java Plug-in 1.3.1.
I thought the Plug-in would sort of replace the windows JVM, but I guess it still used the corrupted/damaged/missing windows java files(which I think caused the problem in the first place.)
Hmm, to rephrase my question, I am looking to reinstall the JVM in win2k service pack 2. Or if I can just sort of disable it, and use Java plug-in as stand-aloneish application, that will be fine too. I just want Java to be working. ^_^
Btw, I have noticed one error msg when I try to load up an applet( specifically, ESPN MLB gamecast ) it would open a new window, but with grey box inplace of applet. The grey box is in place for all java applets in other websites too.
The error msg reads, "error: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError : com/ms/applet/AppletPanel.securedClassLoad Possible causes: If you are trying to use J/"
I am assuming there is something behind "J/" but that's the end of message even if I strech the window so there is large blank spece following the error message.
The error msg is same with Java Plug-in 1.3.1 or without.
Thank you for your help.
