Hi all.

I have the following solution to send/receive sms via J2SE/J2EE:

J2SE --> SMS Gateway --> Receiver

J2EE <-- SMS Gateway <-- Sender

I set up my own SMS Gateway (www.kannel.org). It comes with a light-weight web server which has a cgi script pre-installed in order to use HTTP requests to send sms. Incoming sms can be mapped to e.g. a servlet to process the request and optionally return back a response. Outgoing sms are straight-forward. The gateway uses e.g. the nokia card phone with a valid SIM for both directions.

yes its possible to send SMS via java but it is somewhat complex.java gives you a comm API you have to send a message to port and your port should be attached to a modem for which parsing has to be done by urself.

if you are doing for a project dont take this idea.It is costly and time consumig

Yes. There is J2ME WMA 1.1(Wireless Messaging API) and this supports Java SMS.

You have to get WMA 1.1 enabled phone.

You can't directly send SMS to a mobile phone at your PC.

But you can send SMS indirectly by the phone.

You have to implement two application:

1. Make SMS Agent MIDlet which action is

- starts UDP client

- get SMS information from J2SE UDP server

- send SMS

(Also you have to get UDP enabled phone.)

2. Make Java application which actions is

- starts UDP Server

- get UDP connection and send SMS information to the SMS Agent MIDlet.

No 1 is for MIDP/WMA enabled phone and No. 2 is for your PC.

You need a phone that supports Wireless Messaging API (WMA) as part of the J2ME implementation. Both WMA 1.1 and 2.0 are out.
